An unexpected events unfolded in Ilorin on Wednesday after Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq presented a fleet of new vehicles to top Islamic clerics in the state, just hours after former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki publicly pledged a Toyota Land Cruiser to the Chief Imam of Ilorin.
The political rivalry between the two Kwara leaders appeared to take center stage over the welfare of the Emirate’s religious leadership, creating intense interest across the state capital.
Saraki’s Public Pledge
The development began during a gathering in Ilorin, where Dr. Bukola Saraki addressed the 13th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani, alongside other attendees.
Addressing the audience regarding an expected vehicle that had suffered a delay, the former Kwara State governor assured the religious leader that a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser would be delivered to his residence before 1:00 p.m. the following day.
“I looked outside expecting to see a vehicle, but there was none. We were patient and waited,” Saraki told the gathering, promising that the arrangement would be finalized without delay.
Saraki, whose family holds deep-rooted historical ties with traditional and religious institutions in Kwara State, made the pledge in the presence of several community stakeholders.
Governor Abdulrazaq Delivers Fleet
However, in a fast-paced sequence of events, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate fulfilled an earlier commitment by handing over multiple official vehicles to the Emirate’s key Imams.
Under the governor’s directive, a delegation of state aides led by Alhaji Abdulrazaq Jiddah presented the vehicles directly to the Emir of Ilorin, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for distribution.
The items delivered included:
*Chief Imam of Ilorin: A Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and an executive Hummer Bus.
*Imam of Imale: A Toyota Highlander SUV.
