Calls for the removal of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, intensified on Friday following the controversy surrounding the freezing of the Osun State Government’s account.
Opposition parties and some Nigerians accused the anti-graft agency of acting politically ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The controversy followed the EFCC’s decision to freeze the state government’s account, which President Bola Tinubu later directed the commission to return to court and vacate.
Critics have continued to question the timing of the EFCC’s action, particularly with the governorship election only days away.

Fresh details have emerged from some of the residents rescued after the February 3 terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The victims revealed that at least 13 captives died during the nearly six months they spent in captivity, while 12 children are still being held by the terrorists.
The attack resulted in the abduction of 176 residents, mostly women and children, leaving families devastated as they waited for the return of their loved ones.

Several people were feared killed after armed men reportedly attacked three communities in Kupa Kingdom — Abugi, Kuchinda and Mikugi — in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Residents said the incident began around 8am on Thursday after a herder, suspected of cattle rustling, was shot dead during a confrontation with local vigilantes at a community checkpoint.
The attack was reportedly carried out as a reprisal, although authorities were yet to provide a full account of the incident.
- EFCC Arrests Edo Spiritualist Over Alleged Nude Video Blackmail
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested an Edo State-based self-acclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, over alleged blackmail involving a nude video.
The commission said Moses allegedly threatened to release a woman’s nude video unless she paid $1,100, estimated at about N1.5 million.
He was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, after allegedly demanding the money from the woman.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has disowned a purported circular circulating on social media promoting a presidential ticket involving former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The board described the document as false and unauthorised.
In a statement issued by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Okeh Juliet, the agency said the purported circular did not originate from it.

The company announced the changes on Friday through its X Creators handle.
According to the platform, the new programme will focus on rewarding creators who produce original content for users on X.
- Herder Killed, 11 Cows Die as Mercedes Crashes Into Herd in Rivers
A yet-to-be-identified herder was killed after a Mercedes-Benz car reportedly crashed into a herd of cattle at Evekwu in Rumuodogu, along the East-West Road in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Eyewitnesses said the cattle were crossing the road on Thursday when the speeding vehicle reportedly struck the herders and animals.
About 11 cows were also said to have died in the crash.
- Ondo Police Launch Search for Two Farmers Abducted on Farm
The Ondo State Police Command has launched a search for two farmers who were reportedly abducted at Parubber community in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area.
The victims were said to have been working on their farms on Monday when armed men attacked them and marched them into a nearby forest.
Police operatives have commenced efforts to locate the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

A Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court sitting at the High Court in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced a 27-year-old final-year Mass Communication student, Wisdom Edem, to 35 years in prison.
Edem was convicted on charges involving the rape and sexual abuse of a 10-year-old girl, as well as inflicting injury on the minor.
Justice Peace Otti handed down the sentences in Charge No. A/3C/2024.
- Lagos Arrests 27 Suspected Hoodlums Over Festac-Alakija Bridge Vandalism
The Lagos State Government has arrested 27 suspected hoodlums over the alleged vandalism of a newly constructed bridge linking Festac Town and Alakija.
The arrests were made during a midnight enforcement operation after officials reportedly discovered what the government described as a disturbing act of vandalism beneath the bridge.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Friday, saying the state would continue to protect public infrastructure from vandals.
