- Peter Obi’s convoy blocked in Benue
Suspected thugs reportedly blocked the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benue State on Tuesday.
Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, raised the alarm in a series of posts on X, sharing videos showing the incident. She said the convoy was stopped along Gboko Road, close to the Air Force Base.
- INEC fixes September 19 for five by-elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 19 for five by-elections across four states.
The elections will take place in Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states.
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary to the chairman, Tunde Oketola, confirmed the date in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.
- Governorship, Assembly campaigns begin
Political parties have commenced official campaigns for the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections across the country.
The exercise began on September 8 in line with the timetable released by INEC.
Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections had earlier commenced on August 19.
- Naira gains against dollar
The naira recorded further gains in both the parallel and official foreign exchange markets on Tuesday.
The currency appreciated to N1,387 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,390 on Monday.
It also strengthened slightly to N1,322.9 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM).
- APC withdraws Osun election petition
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has withdrawn its petition challenging the outcome of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The development came barely 24 hours after the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal displayed two petitions filed against Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.
The APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had filed separate petitions on Saturday in suits numbered EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026 and EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026.
- Police summon WAEC staff over alleged cyberstalking
The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has invited a staff member of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Olanrewaju Fadehan, to appear in Abuja on Wednesday.
Fadehan is expected to answer questions over allegations of cyberstalking and criminal defamation.
The invitation comes after the Lagos State High Court restrained him from publishing or circulating alleged defamatory statements concerning WAEC and its Director-General, Dr Amos Dangut.
- Customs officer dies in Cross River crash
A 54-year-old Nigeria Customs Service officer, Prince Etteng Ise, has died in a lone accident along the Ikom-Calabar Highway in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Ise, who was serving at the Mfum Border in Etung LGA, reportedly lost control of his vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole.
- Oyo SDP replaces governorship candidate
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has replaced its governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
At a substitution plenary held in Ibadan on Tuesday, the party ratified the replacement of Michael Okunlade with Mogaji Agboola.
The party also declared that its governorship ticket was not open to political negotiation.
- NDC denies diverting election funds
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied allegations that funds raised from aspirants through donations and levies ahead of the 2027 elections were diverted.
The party said all funds contributed were paid into its designated account and managed by the appropriate party organs.
In a statement on Tuesday, NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the allegations as misinformation and propaganda allegedly being promoted by disgruntled elements.
- Benue Govt accuses Peter Obi of looking for trouble
The Benue State Government has accused Peter Obi of “looking for trouble” following the disruption of his convoy during his visit to the state on Tuesday.
The Commissioner for Information, Solomon Iorpev, made the allegation while reacting to the incident involving Obi’s convoy.
