The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a fire incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, with emergency response teams deployed to contain the situation.
According to a statement released by FAAN on its official social media platforms on Sunday, the authority’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) responded promptly after the incident was reported.
FAAN said firefighters were actively working to bring the situation under control and assured the public that there were no reported injuries or fatalities.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation.
“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life.
“Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” the statement said.»
Cause Yet to Be Determined
As of the time of reporting, FAAN had not disclosed the cause of the fire or the extent of any damage to the affected section of the terminal.
The authority said additional information would be released as emergency operations continue and assessments are completed.
Incident Follows Earlier Fire in Abuja
The airport incident occurred hours after emergency responders were called to a separate fire outbreak at the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja.
While the two incidents happened on the same day, authorities have not indicated that they are connected. Investigations are expected to determine the causes of both fires.
Emergency response teams remained at the Lagos airport at the time of filing this report, while officials continued efforts to secure the affected area and assess the situation.
