Former Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu is reportedly on the verge of committing his international future to Nigeria, in a move that could strengthen the Super Eagles’ midfield options.
According to Daily Post, the 22-year-old Galatasaray midfielder has begun the process of switching his international allegiance from France to Nigeria. Reports also indicate that he has started arrangements to obtain a Nigerian passport as part of the eligibility requirements.
Ugochukwu was born in France to Nigerian parents and has represented France at various youth levels. However, he is yet to make a senior appearance for Les Bleus, making him eligible to switch his allegiance to the Super Eagles under FIFA regulations.
The development comes barely a month after the midfielder was spotted in Owerri, Imo State, where he joined Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho for a football session.
If the nationality switch is completed and approved by FIFA, Ugochukwu would become available for selection by Nigeria and could provide a major boost to the Super Eagles ahead of future international competitions.
