Oyo Releases Full List Of Civilians, Security Personnel Killed During School Kidnap

The Oyo State Government has paid tribute to the civilians and security operatives who lost their lives during the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices will not be forgotten.

In a memorial message shared on its official 𝕏 account on Wednesday, the state government expressed appreciation over the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers but acknowledged that the rescue could not erase the grief caused by the lives lost during the incident.

It also sympathised with the families of the deceased and assured them of continued support as they mourn their loved ones.

The statement read, “While we express gratitude for the safe return of the children and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA, we also wish to honour those who lost their lives.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We commit to supporting them during this trying period. May their souls rest in peace.”

As part of the tribute, the government released an “In Memoriam” list containing the names of civilians and security personnel who died in connection with the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota abduction incident.

The civilians named were Michael Oyedokun, John Olaleye, Joel Adesiyan and Oluwasegun Akanni.

Those listed among the military and security personnel were Lieutenant F. A. Isaac, Adigun Saibu, Isa Saliu and Rafiu Ayuba. An unidentified soldier was also included among the deceased.

The pupils and teachers were kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15. They regained their freedom after spending about 57 days in captivity following a security operation that secured their release.

Their rescue brought relief to families and school communities that had endured weeks of uncertainty over the victims’ fate.

Among those reportedly killed during the abduction were two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Esiyan Adegboye. Adegboye’s body was recovered and buried shortly after the attack, while Oyedokun’s remains had yet to be recovered.

Before the victims were freed, Oyedokun’s family had appealed to President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to intensify efforts to recover his remains to enable the family give him a befitting burial.
