The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the final deadline for candidates offered admission between 2021 and 2026 to either accept or reject their outstanding offers on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The new closing date is September 30, 2026, shifting back the previous August 31 cut-off to give affected admission seekers a final window to regularize their academic status.
Why JAMB Pushed the Deadline
In an official statement released on Saturday by JAMB Public Relations Officer, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board explained that the extension was granted to accommodate candidates who faced administrative delays or technical glitches while trying to access their profiles.
According to the board, the adjustment covers both regular admission streams and the Combined Universities International Admission (CUIIA) offers.
“The extension provides a final opportunity for affected candidates to take action on their admission status. At the expiration of the extended deadline on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, all outstanding offers that remain unaddressed will automatically revert to ‘Not Admitted’ status on our national database,” Benjamin stated.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Candidates
JAMB outlined clear directions for candidates depending on their current academic standing:
Accepting the Offer
Log into the JAMB CAPS portal and click Accept. Enables printing and collection of the official JAMB Admission Letter.
Rejecting the Offer
Log into the portal and select Reject. Reverts candidate status to “Not Admitted,” clearing profile records.
Changed Course/Institution
Accept the pending offer first. Allows candidate to apply for subsequent institutional/programme correction.
Pursuing a Second Degree
Reject the earlier unused admission offer. Protects current university enrollment without conflicting historical records.
2026 Fresh Admittees
Reject previous years’ outstanding offers. Does not affect or invalidate the newly secured 2026 admission.
Strict Warning Against Delays
The examination body emphasized that this grace period is absolute and will not be extended under any circumstances beyond midnight on September 30.
Candidates who fail to act before the deadline risk forfeiting their admission completely, as all unconfirmed offers will be deleted from active national records to allow JAMB to audit its database accurately.
Students are advised to log into their CAPS profiles via the official JAMB portal immediately to review and resolve any pending admission notifications.
