Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has set the social media buzzing after a video showed him taking a prominent seat believed to have been reserved for the Ooni of Ife at a recent event.
In the video circulating on social media, Obasanjo is seen arriving at the high table as an aide appears to direct him towards a particular chair.
The former president, dressed in white traditional attire and a blue cap, however, pauses before eventually choosing an ornate white chair positioned among the seats at the high table.
With assistance from those around him, Obasanjo sits in the chair and adjusts himself before the event continues.

According to the narration accompanying the viral footage, Obasanjo explained his choice by saying that the presence of a former or serving President should attract a higher level of protocol than that accorded to a traditional ruler.
Freshnews.ng could not independently verify the circumstances surrounding the seating arrangement or establish whether the chair was formally reserved for the Ooni of Ife.
While some users found the moment amusing, others focused on the issue of protocol and the relationship between political office holders and traditional rulers.
Obasanjo, who served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1976 to 1979 and later as an elected President from 1999 to 2007, has remained a prominent figure in the country’s public affairs since leaving office.
The former president is also known for his outspoken views on national issues and has frequently attracted public attention over his comments and conduct at official and traditional events.
