Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has thanked President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his support for a free and fair governorship election in the state.
Adeleke spoke on Thursday after meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, his first meeting with the President since winning the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the governor said he visited the President to appreciate his role in ensuring that the election was conducted peacefully.
“I came to thank Mr President for allowing free and fair election in Osun and for fighting for democracy,” Adeleke said.

The governor arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 5:25pm in a black Toyota Land Cruiser SUV. He was accompanied by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Adeleke was dressed in a navy blue traditional outfit and was seen using a walking stick as he entered the Villa.
Other members of his delegation later arrived at about 5:40pm. They included the Director-General of the Adeleke Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi; a member of the council, Sunday Bisi; the Osun State Chief of Staff, Akinleye Kazeem; and the member of the House of Representatives representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam.
The meeting came days after Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his re-election and described the outcome of the election as an assurance that democracy would continue to thrive in Nigeria.
The President also called on the governor to unite the people of Osun State and govern for all residents, regardless of how they voted during the election.
Adeleke’s Victory
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes and secured his return for another four-year term as governor.
Thursday’s visit provided an opportunity for the governor to personally thank the President following the election and to discuss the importance of democracy and governance in Osun State.
