A newborn baby has reportedly gone missing shortly after being delivered at the Comprehensive Health Centre in Gboko, Benue State.
The incident was said to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, after the mother gave birth at the health facility.
Activist Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya raised the alarm over the reported disappearance in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
According to Yaaya, eyewitnesses claimed that an unidentified woman suspected of taking the baby had been seen around the mother before and after she arrived at the health centre.
The activist alleged that the woman may have been mistaken for a relative or family member of the patient by some of the health workers on duty.
How the Baby Was Reportedly Taken
Yaaya claimed that the unidentified woman gained access to the ward at about 4:00am and allegedly left the facility with the newborn.
The circumstances surrounding how the woman gained access to the ward and left the health centre have not been independently established.
Her whereabouts, as well as the current location of the baby, were not known at the time of the report.

Security Agencies Expected to Investigate
According to Yaaya, the matter has been reported to relevant security authorities for investigation.
The investigation is expected to focus on establishing what happened at the health centre, identifying the person suspected of taking the baby and determining the whereabouts of the newborn.
