What began as a heated social media confrontation between Afrobeats singer David Adeleke (Davido) and former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad is set to move to the political stage in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The digital feud originated on X following a telephone conversation between President Bola Tinubu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke; Davido’s uncle, regarding the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) decision to freeze state bank accounts.
When presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed that President Tinubu directed the EFCC to vacate the restriction order, Davido celebrated the announcement, posting that he had witnessed the event live.
Bashir Ahmad countered the musician’s post, stating he had “bookmarked” the update and suggesting the singer would voice dissatisfaction if the upcoming election results favored the opposition.
The exchange escalated as Davido referenced Ahmad’s political record, citing his performance in a previous All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, while criticizing his impact in public service.
Ahmad responded by contrasting his political trajectory with the singer’s career milestones, including his Grammy nominations.
*Rivalry Shifts to the Campaign Trail*
The confrontation took a new turn on Friday when Ahmad announced plans to travel to the Osun State capital to join the APC campaign.
> “I will be in Osogbo from 11th, David,” Ahmad posted on X, confirming his participation in on-the-ground political activities leading up to the election.
With Davido frequently appearing alongside Governor Adeleke during public events and campaign engagements, both figures are expected to be present in Osogbo during the final days of campaigning.
The upcoming August 15 election features incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and other contestants, making the state a key focus of national political attention.
