September 11: Naira Maintains Strength Against Dollar

The naira traded at about ₦1,329.44 per dollar on Friday, September 11, 2026, while dollar quotations remained higher across other segments of Nigeria’s foreign exchange market.

The latest available figures showed the naira maintaining a stronger position at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), although dollar rates continued to vary depending on the market and dealer.

Dollar to naira rate

The US dollar was quoted at approximately ₦1,329.44 at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) on Friday, based on the latest available Central Bank of Nigeria data.

At the latest rate, $1 was worth about ₦1,329.44, while $100 was equivalent to approximately ₦132,944.

The NFEM rate reflects transactions conducted through Nigeria’s formal foreign exchange market and can change as trading activity, dollar supply and demand conditions shift.

Other dollar rates in Nigeria

Dollar quotations outside the NFEM stood at around ₦1,380 for buying and approximately ₦1,390 for selling on Friday.

The rates may differ from one dealer or location to another, depending on dollar availability, transaction volume and prevailing market conditions.

At a selling rate of ₦1,390 per dollar, the dollar was about ₦60.56 higher than the NFEM rate of ₦1,329.44.

This means someone buying $100 at the quoted ₦1,390 rate would need about ₦139,000, compared with approximately ₦132,944 at the NFEM rate.

The difference between the two rates remains relevant to Nigerians who need dollars for international travel, school fees, imports, remittances and other legitimate foreign-currency transactions.

What is driving the exchange-rate movement?

Foreign exchange rates in Nigeria are influenced by several factors, including dollar supply, demand from businesses and individuals, trading activity and broader developments in the currency market.

The stronger naira position recorded at the NFEM means Nigerians accessing dollars through formal channels may face a lower naira cost than those relying on higher dollar quotations elsewhere.

However, the rates available to individuals and businesses can vary depending on where and when the transaction is completed.

What Nigerians should know

Exchange rates published by market trackers are indicative and should not be treated as guaranteed prices for every transaction.

Banks, Bureau De Change operators and other foreign exchange dealers may quote different rates based on their available dollar supply, transaction size and prevailing market conditions.

Anyone planning to buy or sell foreign currency should confirm the applicable rate before completing the transaction.

Rates can also change during the day as trading activity and demand for foreign currency continue.
