A Nigerian groom gave his wedding guests an unexpected show when he turned part of his big day into a lively display of martial arts skills in front of his bride.
A video making the rounds online shows the groom facing a group of men who approach him one after another, each appearing to launch a different attack. The groom responds with quick defensive moves, blocking and countering their actions before sending each challenger away.
It was not a real fight. The men did not appear to hit one another, suggesting the entire performance was carefully choreographed to showcase the groom’s fighting skills.
Still, the performance had all the drama of an action movie.
As the groom moved from one opponent to another, guests cheered and watched with excitement. His bride, meanwhile, appeared amused and visibly pleased as she watched her husband display what could easily pass for a wedding-day audition for the role of a martial arts hero.
The unusual performance quickly caught the attention of social media users, who had plenty to say about the groom’s decision to replace the usual romantic wedding dance with kicks, blocks and dramatic moves.
For @EstherAhumuza, the message to the bride was simple: “He was like, Don’t worry baby, your safe with me.😂”
@PGB_ENTERPRISES also saw the performance as the groom trying to reassure his bride that he could protect her, writing: “He is proving a point that he has the power to protect her😂😂 I no sure say I go meet up with love, omo see skills”
But not everyone was convinced that the performance was simply about protection.
@PeaceAmbassador wrote: “He is indirectly sending the message to his wife that, he is either protecting her or troubling her peace”
That same question was raised by @NsukkaParrot, who asked: “Is this an “I will protect you” signal or a “be careful” signal? 😂 😂 😂”
The groom’s unusual choice of entertainment also inspired jokes about how much preparation he may have put into his martial arts routine.
@Beet-Kon joked: “Marriage preparation= 1 month Kung fu = 9 months”
Meanwhile, @TRAVISNOVA found the setup particularly amusing, writing: “Bro was busy proving he can protect her from the same man he arranged the fight with. 😂”
Some viewers, however, looked beyond the fun and questioned whether the skills demonstrated in a choreographed wedding performance would matter during a genuine emergency.
@MindLoom asked: “It’s not about doing it online , will you be there to defend her when time comes ?”
@Fachiis offered a similar take: “When faced with the real danger, all this won’t surface 😅”
Others simply enjoyed the sheer originality of the performance.
@Naija2Cape_blog wrote: “This man said I do and immediately switched to who wan try me? mode 😂 Bride just standing there smiling like yes, this is the one that go defend the house. Respect to the groom 🔥”
The bride’s smile may have been the biggest reaction of all.
While many couples choose a romantic dance, a surprise performance or a dramatic entrance to entertain their guests, this groom went in a completely different direction — turning his wedding celebration into a mini martial arts showcase.
Whether it was a serious demonstration, a playful performance or simply a memorable way to entertain the guests, one thing is clear: his wedding day will be difficult for those present to forget.
