The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of celebrated director and producer Dimbo Atiya.
His passing was announced on Thursday by actor Mofe Duncan, who shared an emotional tribute on social media describing Atiya as one of the most brilliant minds in African media.
“One of the greatest minds of the entertainment industry,” Duncan wrote, reflecting the widespread shock across the creative community as news of the director’s passing circulated.
At the time of reporting, Atiya’s family had not publicly disclosed the cause of death or finalized arrangements for his funeral.
A Lasting Legacy in Nigerian Television
Originally hailing from Nasarawa State, Dimbo Atiya earned widespread recognition across West Africa for his ability to craft rich, authentic narratives—particularly those centered around Northern Nigerian culture.
He was best known as the creative force behind several hit television series, including Halita and Sons of the Caliphate. His work on Halita earned major industry acclaim when it secured the award for Best Africa Magic Original Drama Series at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Beyond his accolades, industry peers have remembered Atiya as a dedicated mentor whose projects provided early career opportunities for numerous actors, crew members, and technical professionals across Nollywood.
