Veteran entertainer and social commentator Charles Oputa, widely known as CharlyBoy, has broken his silence on persistent public speculation regarding his sexuality, maintaining a defiant stance against critics.
In a statement shared via his official Instagram account, the outspoken celebrity addressed individuals who have repeatedly questioned his identity and labeled him gay. He dismissed the criticisms, suggesting that such viewpoints stem from conservative or outdated perspectives on personal presentation.
“For years, many have questioned my sexuality. Some have openly called me gay. Anything una like make una talk, because I know for many Nigerians, dey are still living under the rock,” he wrote.
Redefining Traditional Masculinity
Beyond addressing the rumors, CharlyBoy used the platform to challenge conventional definitions of masculinity. He argued that expressing or embracing one’s feminine attributes does not diminish a man’s identity, but rather broadens his emotional depth.
According to the entertainer, a balanced individual should have access to a complete range of human experiences, combining traditional ideas of strength and logic with vulnerability and intuition.
“Embracing one’s feminine side isn’t about becoming less of a man, it’s about becoming more of a human being. It’s about having access to the full spectrum of human experience: strength and vulnerability, logic and intuition, independence and connection,” he added.
