Navigating career boundaries in Nigeria’s film industry often requires actors to strike a balance between creative expectations and personal convictions. For Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode, that balance has remained central to her career, as she continues to prioritise her faith over opportunities that conflict with her beliefs.
Widely recognised for her breakout role as Toyo Baby in the popular television series Jenifa’s Diary, Olayode has established herself as an actress who is intentional about the kind of roles she accepts, particularly those involving romantic or intimate scenes.
₦100 Million Is Not Enough: The Price of Conviction
During an interview with Tribune, Olayode reaffirmed that no financial reward, including an offer of ₦100 million, would persuade her to compromise her Christian values. She maintained that her convictions remain more important than any amount of money and explained that she would only agree to kiss a man on screen if he were her real-life husband.
She stated, “Even if you offer me ₦100 million, I won’t kiss any man in a movie. The only exception is if that man is my husband.”
The actress explained that her decision is rooted in her Christian faith and personal beliefs rather than fear of criticism or concern about public opinion. Although she has chosen not to participate in romantic or intimate scenes, she emphasised that she respects colleagues who are comfortable taking on such roles.
According to Olayode, every actor should have the freedom to define personal boundaries based on individual values and what they are willing to portray on screen. She believes those choices deserve respect across the industry.
Beyond the Screen: Reconciliation and Professional Growth
Away from her career choices, Olayode also reflected on the restoration of her relationship with veteran actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele.
Speaking in a separate interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, she described their reconciliation as an answer to years of prayer and expressed gratitude to God for making it possible.
The actress disclosed that she consistently prayed for the restoration of their friendship after a period of estrangement, noting that her desire was never driven by hopes of securing movie roles or professional opportunities.
Instead, Olayode said she simply wanted to rebuild their relationship and return to being on good terms with Akindele. She explained that the award-winning filmmaker had stood by her during some of the most difficult moments of her life, making reconciliation deeply meaningful on a personal level.
