Hostel Collapse: Victims Trapped Under Rubble Not Our Students – Federal Polytechnic Oko

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has dismissed reports claiming that several of its students died in the collapse of a three-storey building near the institution.

In a statement issued on Monday, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Oguegbu Celestine Udoka, clarified that the collapsed building was not located within the Polytechnic but in Amaokpala community, where it served as a privately owned off-campus accommodation.

Udoka explained that the lodge was occupied by both students and non-students, stressing that no student of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, had been confirmed dead in the incident.

He also stated that the two people believed to be trapped beneath the rubble were not students of the institution.

The management further noted that the incident occurred at a time when most students had already completed their second semester examinations and had left the campus.

The Polytechnic appealed to members of the public to ignore unverified reports circulating on social media and other platforms regarding the incident.
