The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed that the teacher accused of flogging a 12-year-old primary school pupil to death has surrendered to the police after days of being on the run.
The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Mrs. Dim Ebere, reportedly turned herself in at the Neni Divisional Police Station in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
Her surrender comes days after the police launched a manhunt following her disappearance after learning that the pupil had died.
Confirming the development on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect voluntarily presented herself to the police following sustained efforts by security operatives and community leaders.
According to him, officers of the Anambra State Police Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, working alongside personnel of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, intensified the search for the suspect while engaging stakeholders and community leaders in Adazi-Ani.
“Following sustained manhunt operations by the Anambra State Police Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, in collaboration with officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters, and continuous engagement with stakeholders and community leaders in Adazi-Ani, the principal suspect, Mrs. Dim Ebere, aged 47, has voluntarily presented herself at the Neni Police Station,” Ikenga said.
He added that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for the conclusion of the investigation.

The case has attracted public attention following reports that the 12-year-old pupil died after allegedly being flogged by the teacher.
Police had earlier assured the victim’s family and the public that a thorough investigation would be carried out and that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
