The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has praised the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria for speaking openly about the challenges confronting the country during their recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, Kwankwaso said the bishops demonstrated courage and patriotism by highlighting issues affecting ordinary Nigerians rather than engaging in partisan politics.
He dismissed suggestions that the clerics’ remarks were politically motivated, insisting that the concerns they raised reflect the realities many citizens face daily.
According to Kwankwaso, millions of Nigerians continue to struggle with rising living costs, insecurity, unemployment, limited access to quality healthcare and education, and declining economic opportunities despite the country’s vast human and natural resources.
He noted that these challenges require practical and people-centred solutions, urging those in leadership to focus on policies that improve the welfare and security of citizens.
The former Kano State governor also encouraged Nigerians to continue engaging elected leaders constructively while demanding accountability at every level of government. He said sustained dialogue and responsible leadership are essential to addressing the nation’s pressing socio-economic challenges.
“I commend the Catholic Bishops for their courage and patriotism. It is through such collective commitment and responsible leadership that we can build a more peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria,” Kwankwaso wrote.
He concluded his message with a prayer for the country, saying, “May Almighty Allah continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Freshnews.ng reports that the Catholic Bishops had earlier met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where they expressed concerns over issues including the rising cost of living, insecurity, declining public confidence in governance and the economic hardship experienced by many Nigerians.
