Federal Government's ₦50,000 relief grant

FG N50,000 Grant: How Nigerians Can Check Eligibility, Access Payment Through Approved Platforms

Nigerians seeking the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 relief grant can check their beneficiary status through designated financial service providers as the government continues its phased disbursement under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).

The intervention is designed to provide financial assistance to vulnerable households affected by economic hardship and the rising cost of living.

Unlike some government empowerment programmes that require applicants to complete registration forms, the NERSI initiative relies on existing government records to identify potential beneficiaries.

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction says eligible recipients are selected using information from the National Social Register and verified national identity records.

Six Financial Platforms Approved For The Grant

The Federal Government has identified six digital financial service providers to facilitate access to the N50,000 intervention.

They include ALAT by Wema, MoMo Payment Service Bank, NairaGram, OPay, Moniepoint and Xpress Payments.

Four of the providers have published USSD codes through which Nigerians can access information relating to the intervention.

The available codes are:

ALAT by Wema Bank: 94523#

MoMo Payment Service Bank: 6710#

NairaGram: 72600#

OPay: 557327#

USSD access details for Moniepoint and Xpress Payments were not provided in the available information.

The codes are intended to help users access information about the programme through the respective financial service providers.

How Beneficiaries Will Receive The Money

The NERSI programme does not automatically approve everyone who checks their status.

The government uses its existing beneficiary records to identify people who meet the selection requirements. Those selected are then contacted through SMS notifications sent by approved financial institutions.

Recipients must follow the instructions in their messages, provide consent and activate their designated mobile wallets before the money can be disbursed.

For Nigerians using OPay, eligibility notifications may also appear on the application’s homepage.

The use of USSD services means people without internet-enabled smartphones can also access the available services.

What A ‘Not Selected’ Message Means

Nigerians who receive a “NOT SELECTED” response after checking their eligibility have been advised to exercise patience.

The government is processing payments in phases, so notifications may not reach all selected beneficiaries at the same time.

A negative response does not necessarily mean that the person will be included in another payment batch. It also does not guarantee future selection.

Beneficiaries are therefore advised to rely on official notifications rather than messages from individuals claiming to have access to the selection process.

FG Warns Against Fraudulent Grant Agents

The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against fraudsters who demand registration fees or promise to secure places on the beneficiary list.

The NERSI intervention is a grant and not a loan. Recipients are not expected to repay the money after receiving it.

The ministry has also cautioned beneficiaries against sharing sensitive banking information, including their PINs, passwords, Bank Verification Numbers and one-time passwords.

Anyone claiming to be an official of the programme should not be given access to such information.

Nigerians seeking further clarification can contact the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222 or consult the programme’s official information portal.

Is The N50,000 Grant A Monthly Payment?

The frequency of the N50,000 payment has also raised questions among Nigerians seeking to benefit from the intervention.

While some media reports have described the support as monthly assistance, the ministry’s NERSI portal identifies it as a one-off grant.

This distinction is important because the available official information does not establish that beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 every month.

Recipients should therefore avoid assuming that the payment is recurring unless the Federal Government provides further clarification.

The intervention is intended to provide financial relief to selected vulnerable households, with beneficiary identification and payment handled through the designated financial service providers.
