The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported two suspected cases of Ebola disease in the North-East region of the country.
The agency disclosed this in a post shared on its official X handle on Saturday, raising concerns over the possibility of a fresh Ebola outbreak in the country.
However, the NCDC has yet to provide further details about the suspected cases, including the specific locations where they were identified and the health conditions of the individuals involved.
It is also unclear whether samples have been collected from the suspected patients for laboratory testing to establish whether they are infected with the Ebola virus.
The development comes as health authorities continue to monitor potential infectious disease threats and strengthen disease surveillance across the country.
Ebola is a severe viral disease that can cause fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea and, in some cases, internal or external bleeding. It spreads through direct contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of an infected person or someone who has died from the disease.
The NCDC is expected to provide more information on the suspected cases as further details emerge.
Details later.
