Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
The actor’s death was announced on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram Live session.
Ogogo’s death came just days after his family revealed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed to medical professionals and hospitals for help.
His daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, had earlier spoken publicly about his deteriorating condition and sought specialist medical assistance for their father. The family had stressed that they were looking for appropriate treatment rather than financial donations.
The latest development also comes days after the family dismissed an earlier social media report claiming that the actor had died. At the time, his daughter Lima described the report as false and urged the public to stop spreading unverified information.
However, on Sunday, Kira confirmed that the veteran actor had passed away.
Ogogo was one of the respected figures in the Yoruba movie industry, with a career spanning several decades. He was known for his versatility and memorable performances in numerous Yoruba and English-language productions.
Beyond acting, he also worked as a producer, director and screenwriter, establishing himself as one of the familiar faces of Nigerian cinema.
News of his death has triggered an outpouring of grief among fans, colleagues and well-wishers, coming at a time when many had been hoping for his recovery after learning of his illness.
The family is expected to announce further details about his funeral arrangements.
