Social media commentator Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM) has said he will support Seyi Tinubu if he comes out to run for governor of Lagos State.
Seyi, the son of President Bola Tinubu has been in the news lately about his possible governorship bid.
In a video on Instagram, VDM said, “If Seyi Tinubu runs for governor, I’ll campaign for him. I don’t get involved in politics but I’ll do it for him.”
According to VDM, Seyi is a bridge to a working Nigeria and seems to have his father’s political DNA.
VDM believed Seyi will face opposition from established politicians, how older politicians will feel threatened by his leadership.
He added, “If Seyi Tinubu becomes governor, they’ll be out of power. These older politicians know he has his father’s traits and that’s a problem.”
VDM also said while Seyi’s chances of running during his father’s presidency is slim, politics is a game of interest.
In November 2024, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected any attempt to impose Seyi Tinubu as a candidate for 2027 elections. PDP Lagos spokesperson, Hakeem Amode said, “Lagos will not serve him.”
But some groups have endorsed his ambition:
Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders said Seyi should consider running in Osun or Imo states, citing his family’s roots.
A socio-political group named Friends of Seyi Tinubu described him as a visionary leader with intellect, compassion and strategy.
Seyi Tinubu’s growing popularity and the endorsements he’s getting shows younger Nigerians are getting more involved in politics. But his journey will be tough with opposition parties and older politicians who want to maintain the status quo.
