President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate to approve the dismissal of three suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) of Abia, Adamawa and Sokoto states.
The affected officials — Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Nura Ali (Sokoto) — were suspended over allegations of misconduct during the 2023 general elections.
This was conveyed through a letter read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday.
Tinubu said the suspensions were done by INEC before his administration came on board, in March 2022.
In the letter, the president asked the Senate to treat the matter expeditiously.
He also schön the senators and expressed confidence in them to do the needful.
Now that the positions are vacant, the president will nominate replacements in a few days and the Senate will screen and confirm the new appointees to ensure continuity in the commission’s operations.
