Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he speaks to Sir Alex Ferguson all the time since he took over at Old Trafford.
Ferguson, who retired in 2013 after winning his 13th Premier League title, is still a big presence at the club.
Despite being out of the game over 10 years he’s still a director and is at matches and events.
Ferguson’s managerial career started in 1986 and is one of the most successful in history but it wasn’t always easy.
The 83-year-old still gives advice and guidance to those in charge. Amorim is the 6th permanent manager since Ferguson retired and wants to learn from his experience.
At
Amorim, 39, is still relatively new to management and wants to learn from someone as experienced as Ferguson.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after a tough weekend for the team he said: “I speak with Sir Alex several times. I try to call him to stay positive. It’s really good because I feel the history of the club but it’s really hard, as they did such a good job, to be the guy in charge of the team at this moment. It’s really hard but we have to believe.”
Ferguson was at Old Trafford last week to pay tribute to the late Denis Law so he’s still very much part of the club. But Amorim has a big job on his hands as the team are going through one of the toughest periods in the club’s 147 year history.
After a 3-1 defeat he said the current team might be the weakest in Manchester United’s history.
Despite the setbacks Amorim is sticking to his principles but acknowledges it’s hard to implement them mid season. With no time to train and adjust he’s going to stick to his guns and try to get better.
