Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has linked the recent brouhaha at the party’s headquarters to security lapses (The Cable).
Speaking at the BoT meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, Wabara lamented the mess that occurred on January 29 when a fight broke out during the discussion on the national secretary position.
Recalling the incident, Wabara said such disruptions are a threat to the party’s internal processes. Hence the BoT has decided to move its future meetings away from the party secretariat until security is improved.
He said members’ safety and order must be the top priority during meetings.
He acknowledged the importance of a secure environment for decision making and urged the PDP leadership to act fast to address the security gaps at the secretariat.
According to him, confidence in the party’s structures can only be restored if members are safe and there’s no recurrence.
Despite the internal issues, Wabara restated the PDP as Nigeria’s preferred party.
He mentioned the party’s pedigree in promoting democratic governance, economic development and national cohesion.
According to him, the PDP is listening to Nigerians and will restore hope and progress in the country.
He also commended the PDP Governors’ Forum for approving March 13 for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, an event party members across the country have been waiting for.
Wabara advised NEC members to come to the meeting with open minds to discuss and make decisions that will shape the party’s future.
As the PDP navigates its leadership crisis, Wabara’s message is about unity, security and focus.
