Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has taken over the case of 73-year-old Areola Abraham who was assaulted in a viral video by the suspended Olorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Semiu Ogunjobi.
The National Vice President of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Yinka Folarin, confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Falana, who is the Board of Trustees Chairman of CDHR, welcome Abraham to his chambers in Ikeja GRA, Lagos and assured him of legal support.
According to Folarin, Falana has vowed to take action against the suspended monarch for violating Abraham’s fundamental human rights.
After a detailed briefing on the case, Falana promised to go after justice for the elderly man.
He said his team would ensure Abraham’s rights are respected and necessary action would be taken against those involved.
Comrade Soyombo Sunday, former chairman CDHR in Ogun State and human rights investigator was also present during the meeting.
Folarin, who accompanied Abraham to Falana’s chambers, praised the lawyer for his passion for defending the oppressed.
He described Falana as a strong advocate for justice and human dignity and reaffirmed his commitment to a society where human rights are respected.
Meanwhile Oba Ogunjobi who was earlier suspended by the state government is still in custody at Ilaro Correctional Centre.
He was remanded on Tuesday after he failed to meet the bail conditions given to him by the Ifo Magistrate Court.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ogun State, Yinka Odukoya confirmed his continued detention.
The state government had earlier announced a six months suspension for the traditional ruler for his conduct which is damaging to the institution he once represented.
