Marcus Rashford’s chances of a January departure from Manchester United are disappearing and he’s now focusing on getting back in the team.
Rashford has been absent for the last nine (9) games and has been left out of the squads recently after head coach Ruben Amorim publicly called him out to improve his performance.
Speculation has been rife about Rashford’s next move with AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund being the usual suspects.
But the cost of any deal, even a short term loan, has complicated things and dragged negotiations into the final weeks of the transfer window.
According to reports, including The Times, the English international hasn’t given up and is working hard to win back Amorim’s trust.
Reports added that he’s been putting in extra training to prove his commitment.
The Telegraph say there’s no bad blood between Rashford and Amorim and he’s ready to be recalled if the manager decides to end his exile.
Amorim recently said Rashford’s return is up to the player, so the door is still open.
Despite interest from Monaco, Rashford is holding out for Barcelona. Sources say personal terms have been agreed with the Catalan giants but the club need to sort out their salary cap before making an official approach.
Meanwhile, AC Milan, who were once in the running for Rashford, seem to have cooled off.
The Italian side were put off by Rashford’s £300,000 a-week wage demands and are now looking at Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, both United players.
Milan’s interest in Rashford was initially sparked by Zlatan Ibrahimović who is now an advisor to the club and the player former teammate.
Milan are looking at other forwards as they have constraints on non-EU player registrations and Kyle Walker will take the last spot.
But if Fikayo Tomori leaves the club they could look at Feyenoord’s Mexican striker Santiago Giménez.
Despite the financial and logistical issues, Borussia Dortmund are still keen on a permanent deal for Rashford. His agents met with United last week to discuss options.
Ruben Amorim was asked about Rashford’s continued absence after the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion and stuck to his guns.
“No matter what I’m not going to play a player I don’t think is best for the team,” Amorim said.
