The All Progressives Congress (APC) has tackled the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its leadership crisis, saying the party is on the verge of collapse.
The ruling party said Nigerians should not allow PDP to come back to power, citing the damage the party inflicted on the country during its 16 years in power.
During a Sunday’s interview with the Punch, APC National Publicity Secretary, Bala Ibrahim, did not mince words in his attack on the opposition.
He said Nigeria is still feeling the effects of PDP’s years of misrule and that the party has become irrelevant in the country’s political space.
“That party is finished. Nigerians are still feeling the effects of 16 years of PDP rule. Are these the same people who think they can lead this country again? It’s ridiculous. This is just the beginning and at APC we are enjoying the show,” Ibrahim said.
He also accused PDP of not being able to manage the country and even its internal affairs.
“The crisis in PDP is evidence that Nigerians were lucky to have voted them out. They should go to APC Progressive Institute established by our National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje to learn politics without bitterness,” he said.
PDP Crisis
Asked if APC was behind the crisis in PDP and other opposition parties, Ibrahim said no.
He asked how APC could be involved in the crisis at PDP’s national headquarters in Abuja.
“How is APC responsible for the crisis at Wadata Plaza? We are not even near their headquarters. How can they blame us for their problems? What does APC have to do with their multiple secretaries and chairmen? They just don’t know how to manage themselves and that’s why they are in this mess,” he said.
Atiku Missing
As PDP crisis deepens, leaders from the North East caucus of the party converged on Bauchi to discuss reconciliation and 2027 election strategy. But former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a major player in the region, was not there.
The high level meeting held on Thursday had the three PDP governors from the North East – Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Also in attendance were members of the PDP Reconciliation Committee led by former National Secretary Olagunsoye Oyinlola and senators, House of Representatives members and state assembly members from the region.
