Yul Edochie Joins Traditional Religion, Dumps Christianity
Nollywood actor and former presidential aspirant Yul Edochie has officially joined traditional African religion and dumped Christianity.
Just a year after he launched his own Christian ministry, Edochie announced on Instagram that he has chosen to follow the spiritual beliefs of his ancestors and has rejected Christianity.
At the beginning of 2024, he surprised many when he launched his own church, preached online and called himself a pastor.
But in a shocking turn of events, he has now dissociated himself from Christianity, saying he can no longer ignore the faith and tradition of his forefathers just to fit into modern society.
He said, “Fear has made many Africans abandon their own beliefs. That’s an abomination. I will never abandon my ancestral ways. Traditional African spirituality is rooted in truth, transparency and fairness. I love those values.”
He also took new titles that reflects his traditionalism, he now calls himself Isi Mmili Ji Ofor, Ezedike 1, Alusi Na Eje Uka, Okala Mmadu Okala Mmuo all of which means he’s deeply connected to African spirituality.
His post has generated mixed reactions on social media, many people are sharing their opinions. Some are mocking his spiritual transition while others are wondering what made him take the decision.
A few users said his wife Judy Austin must have influenced him while others turned it to a joke.
One Instagram user @gloriaznation commented sarcastically, “Tomorrow: thank you Jesus. Yul, stand well for thunder biko.”
Another @beautifullly_b said, “This one don go Judy, e no go better for you. Chaiii, I con dey pity the amu bingo.”
Meanwhile @trudy_hair_gh joked that Edochie should get another wife to complete his transformation, “You for add another wife to be complete oo… from pastor to traditionalist congratulations ”
This is another addition to his already controversial public life. Is this a personal transformation or just another phase of his unpredictable life? Only time will tell. Permanent or temporary, we will see.
