Paris Saint-Germain came back to win 4-2 against Manchester City in a crazy Champions League match last night.
Despite both teams being in a bad run in Europe, the match was exciting and dramatic and PSG’s spirit and flair won the day.
The game started with 19-year-old Desire Doue forcing an early save from Ederson and Manchester City testing Gianluigi Donnarumma with efforts from Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.
The hosts were well organized at the back and City couldn’t get going unless they were precise or lucky. Savinho had a good chance late in the first half but Donnarumma saved him and the match was goalless.
PSG thought they had scored just before half time when Achraf Hakimi scored but VAR ruled it out for Nuno Mendes being offside in the build up.
The first half was tight but the second half was a different story.
City looked in control after scoring twice early in the second half. Jack Grealish scored from a loose ball and Erling Haaland headed in from close range after a great Phil Foden work. But PSG didn’t give up and responded straight away.
Bradley Barcola brought the team to life with his creativity, he set up Ousmane Dembele for a calm finish and then scored himself from Doue’s rebound to make it 2-2.
With the momentum with PSG, City struggled to get back in the game.
The decisive moment came when Joao Neves, who was excellent all game, headed in a free kick at the back post to make it 3-2. City were shaken and couldn’t respond and Goncalo Ramos scored a late goal to seal the win.
The defeat leaves City needing a win on Matchday 8 to stay in the playoff hunt, a far cry from their usual dominance. Meanwhile PSG’s performance, led by the likes of Bradley Barcola and Joao Neves, reminded the fans of what the team can do on the biggest stage in Europe.
Joao Neves, Man of the Match, was excellent and now a key player in PSG’s comeback.
City will want to forget this night.
