Erling Haaland has put pen to paper on a new contract at Manchester City, tying him to the club until the summer of 2034.
This is a huge deal that not only secures his future at the Etihad but also wipes out all previous release clauses making him a mainstay of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Since Haaland arrival from Borrusia Dortmund, he has scored 111 goals in 126 games across all competitions.
He banged in 79 goals in 87 Premier League games. He quickly become one of the top strikers in the league.
At 24 he’s already a must have for City as they have challenges on multiple fronts this season.
Haaland’s previous contract was due to expire in 2027 and both Real Madrid and Barcelona were interested in him. Despite their financial issues the clubs wanted to pair him with LaLiga stars like Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Pedri and Gavi.
But this new contract not only kills all that talk but is also one of the biggest deals in history. A revised clause from 2029 has been described as “very high” but the numbers are secret.
Haaland’s long term deal is a boost for a City side who are having a tough time.
The citizens have won only (two) 2 of their last 14 games across all competitions — 12 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League with a game in hand.
City are one of the bottom clubs in the Champions League group stage table.
With two crucial group games left Haaland will be key. He’s already scored five (5) goals in six (6) Champions League games this season and is second in the Premier League Golden Boot, behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
January has been a busy month for City as they look to add to the squad: Omar Marmoush, the Eintracht Frankfurt forward is close to a big move to the Etihad. Defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are also set to join.
