Donald Trump is now the 47th President of the United States for a second non-consecutive term.
Trump was previously the 45th president from 2017 to 2021.
The swearing in ceremony was moved indoors at the US Capitol due to the cold weather.
The day started with JD Vance, the Vice President-elect and former Ohio Senator (2023–2025) being sworn in.
Then Chief Justice John Roberts swore in Trump at 12 pm ET. First Lady Melania Trump was by his side.
Unlike previous inaugurations this was a more low key affair with only 700 guests indoors. Compared to the expected 250,000.
With his left hand on the Bible held by Melania and his right hand raised Trump said: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God.”
In his first remarks as president Trump thanked the crowd, Vice President JD Vance and other dignitaries.
He then declared a bold vision for the country “The golden age of America begins right now”.
He will make America “the envy of every nation” and will put America first.
“We will not be taken advantage of any longer. I will, very simply, put America first,” he said.
His inauguration speech outlined his plan for his second term. He will take immediate action to change immigration policies, impose tariffs to strengthen the economy and reverse previous border decisions.
He will strengthen the nation’s security, the military and protect the rights of every citizen.
“Our mission is clear: to secure our borders, grow our economy, strengthen our military and protect the rights of every citizen,” he said.
He will start with a series of executive orders on immigration reform, energy and the economy. He called it a “revolution of common sense” to get fairness and balance back in the country.
This is a big moment in American history with Trump promising a presidency of action and America First.
