Amad Diallo is the man of the moment under Ruben Amorim. His last few games have been incredible:
This past week Amad has had match-winning moments, from scoring the winner against Manchester City to equalising at Liverpool.
Just days after signing a new contract at Manchester United, Amad scored his first senior hat-trick in a 12-minute blitz, rescuing the Red Devils from what looked like certain defeat.
Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: “It’s been one of the best weeks of my life.”
Amad’s versatility is the key. Whether playing as a secondary striker or a wing-back, he finds a way to make an impact.
Of his six Premier League goals this season, two were winners and three were equalisers.
At 22 he’s being compared to legends. Only Wayne Rooney scored a Premier League hat-trick for United at a younger age.
Despite the hype, manager Ruben Amorim is keeping feet on the ground, he said: “He has done well, but he has a lot to improve. The focus is always on the next game.”
This is the reality of the season for United. But for fans going through tough times, Amad is a light at the end of the tunnel.
United were all over the shop against Southampton. Disjointed pressing and defensive errors showed up the weaknesses, but Amad was above it all:
Goal 1: He finished after his second attempt.
Goal 2: He created the chance with his movement in the box.
Goal 3: He pounced on a defender’s mistake with opportunism and anticipation.
Playing as a wing-back in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, Amad showed skill and desire to make things happen.
According to Sky Sports, signing Amad up long term might be United’s move of the season.
While Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have struggled, Amad has delivered when it mattered most. He excels in big moments. His performances give the team a boost during tough times.
Amorim knows the task is tough:
The Liverpool and Arsenal games have taken a lot out of the team and narrowly avoided a fourth consecutive home defeat, a record not seen since 1934.
The team’s lack of press is a problem.
Amorim is hopeful, but says we need to be patient and incremental: “It’s not lack of effort but adjusting to the new system.”
Amad has done it in big moments, scoring winners and showing the tactical flexibility Amorim wants from the team.
Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 requires high press and adaptability, players have to adjust from what they were used to.
